Applications are being invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher role in the field of Regional Climate Modeling within the ERC-funded IGNITE project, coordinated by Dr. Jelena Bujan. The position will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Cléa Denamiel, a specialist in high-resolution regional climate modeling. The IGNITE project examines the influence of thermal extremes on ant survival and ecosystem resilience within Croatian island environments. This role will serve as a link between climate science and ecology, enabling innovative interdisciplinary research. 

Responsibilities

Position Details

• Project Scope: Climate modeling of Croatian island ecosystems under thermal extremes.
• Anticipated Start: Between late 2025 and early 2026 (flexible).
• Contract Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 4 years based on performance.
• Application Deadline: 30 September 2025. 

Role Description

The appointed researcher will be engaged in the development of IslaClim, a high-resolution climate modeling framework derived from the AdriSC suite. The work will include:

• Execution of 500 m resolution simulations using WRF or ICON models.
• Coupling of atmospheric models with land surface models such as CLM 5.0.
• Integration of satellite-based vegetation datasets for microclimate analyses.
• Simulation of both present-day and projected climate scenarios utilizing the pseudo-global warming (PGW) approach.
• Collaboration with ecologists to connect modeled climate data with biological experiment outcomes. 

Qualification

Required Qualifications

• A PhD in atmospheric sciences, climate science, oceanography, or a related discipline.
• Technical expertise in WRF/ICON, Python, Fortran, bash scripting, and high-performance computing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the use of remote sensing datasets.
• Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary research settings.
