Description

Applications are being invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Civil Engineering at the HUD Center for Climate Resilient and Equitable Housing (CECREH), located at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. This position is being made available as part of a larger federally supported initiative. A strong emphasis is being placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and impact-oriented research. The focus of this initiative is directed toward climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, and equitable housing development. Research will be conducted in partnership with scholars and practitioners from multiple disciplines. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of integrated models of community resilience. Techniques in hazard mapping, exposure analysis, and simulation modeling will be employed. Vulnerabilities in housing systems exposed to natural hazards will be systematically examined. The dynamics of disaster recovery will be explored using quantitative and spatial tools. Models will be calibrated to reflect the complexity of post-disaster community responses. Special attention will be given to historically under-served and high-risk populations. Recovery trajectories and long-term resilience patterns will be studied. Efforts will be directed toward producing actionable insights for policymakers and communities. The research is intended to inform equitable planning and housing policies. The postdoctoral researcher will be embedded in an active research environment. Ongoing projects funded by federal agencies will form the backbone of this work. Mentorship and collaboration with senior investigators will be provided. Publication and dissemination of results through academic and policy channels will be encouraged. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply at the earliest possible opportunity.

Responsibilities

Research Areas of Focus:

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing and emerging projects in the following areas:

Hazard Mapping

Advanced Geo-spatial analysis and modeling will be used to characterize and map hazard exposure across vulnerable housing systems.

Exposure and Recovery Simulations / Modeling

Data-driven and simulation-based approaches will be developed to assess community exposure and track recovery trajectories post-disaster.

Integrated Models of Community Resilience

Cross-disciplinary modeling frameworks will be applied to understand how infrastructure, social systems, and environmental factors interact to influence long-term resilience outcomes.

Position Details:
