Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available within the Axon Degeneration Laboratory at the University of Sydney, under the leadership of Dr. Andrea Loreto. The role is aligned with the Snow Vision Accelerator, a $50 million initiative designed to advance treatments for glaucoma and optic nerve disorders. The Snow Vision Accelerator represents a $50 million partnership between the University of Sydney and Snow Medical, aimed at combating irreversible blindness. Responsibilities

Role Overview

The appointed researcher will engage in pioneering work on NAD biology, axon degeneration, and drug discovery relevant to optic nerve diseases. Research activities will involve iPSC-derived neurons, mouse models, and advanced imaging methodologies. Collaboration will be undertaken with diverse teams across the Snow Vision Accelerator, with results to be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Contributions to mentoring junior researchers and fostering an inclusive laboratory culture will also be expected. 


Position Details

  • Location: Charles Perkins Centre, School of Medical Sciences, University of Sydney
  • Duration: 24-month fixed-term appointment (extension possible)
  • Salary: Level A ($113,400–$121,054) or Level B ($127,436–$151,328) + 17% superannuation

Qualification

Required Qualifications

The role requires a PhD in Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, or a closely related field. Candidates must bring hands-on expertise with iPSC-derived cultures, primary neurons, and mouse models. A strong background in axon degeneration and NAD biology is essential to drive research objectives. Applicants should demonstrate a proven record of scientific publications that showcase their expertise. Success in collaborative research environments will be highly valued.

Preferred Skills

Preferred candidates will have knowledge in metabolomics or gene therapy. These skills can enhance the scope and impact of ongoing research projects. Such expertise adds valuable depth to experimental design and data interpretation.
