Postdoctoral Position in Circular Manufacturing – Aalborg University, Denmark
Aalborg University, Denmark
Description
A postdoctoral research position has been announced at Aalborg University, focusing on the field of Circular Manufacturing. This role is offered through the Department of Materials and Production and is expected to contribute to cutting-edge research in sustainable industrial processes, with a specific emphasis on circularity, innovation, and digital manufacturing systems. The position is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026, or as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified.
Research Context
The role is part of a larger research initiative aimed at integrating circular economy principles into manufacturing systems. The postdoc will contribute to a multi-disciplinary team working to design, model, and evaluate new approaches that promote sustainable material use, closed-loop processes, and circular product lifecycles within industrial settings. The work will be conducted under the umbrella of CIRCit+ and other affiliated projects, in collaboration with regional, national, and international partners.
Responsibilities
What to do?
The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to:
- The development of circular business models and manufacturing strategies
- Design and testing of circular production flows and closed-loop systems
- The integration of digital tools, including simulation, digital twins, and lifecycle analysis
- Collaboration with industry stakeholders to co-create practical solutions
- Publishing research results in high-impact journals and presenting at international conferences
Mentoring of graduate students and active participation in project meetings will also be part of the role.
Qualification
Candidate Profile
Applicants will be considered if the following qualifications are demonstrated:
- A PhD degree in engineering, industrial design, production systems, or related disciplines
- Research experience within circular economy, sustainable manufacturing, or digital production systems
- Familiarity with simulation tools, industrial collaboration, and cross-disciplinary methods
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in both academic and applied research settings
Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential, and the ability to work in Danish or other Scandinavian languages will be seen as an advantage.
Work Environment
The postdoc will be based at the Aalborg campus of Aalborg University, where the Department of Materials and Production maintains state-of-the-art facilities for experimentation, modeling, and collaborative innovation. Research will be carried out in close coordination with academic teams and industrial partners, allowing for both theoretical development and real-world impact.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted electronically via Aalborg University’s recruitment system. Documents to be uploaded typically include:
- A detailed CV
- A cover letter outlining the applicant’s motivation and relevant experience
- A research statement aligned with the position focus
- Copies of academic degrees and transcripts
- Contact details for two academic references
The review process will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
