Are you a motivated engineer looking to tackle global water challenges? The FABS Lab within the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Syracuse University is looking for a PhD student to join their research team for Fall 2026.

Are You Eligible?

To be successful in this application, you should meet the following requirements:

• Academic Background: You must already hold a Master of Science (MSc) degree.
• Research Interests: You should be passionate about environmental engineering, specifically in process modeling or the use of microbial tools.

What You Will Research

As a PhD student in Dr. Sabba’s group, you will work on cutting-edge projects focused on sustainability and resource recovery, including:

• Wastewater Innovation: Researching low-DO biological nutrient removal (BNR).
• Resource Recovery: Managing carbon through fermentation and internal storage, and improving phosphorus removal (EBPR).
• Environmental Protection: Studying how "forever chemicals" (PFAS) transform in wastewater and landfill systems.
