Description

The Smart Grid Power Systems (SPS) Lab at the University of South Florida (USF) offers fully funded Ph.D. opportunities starting in Spring 2027. Selected researchers engage in innovative studies focused on power systems modeling, advanced analytics, and hardware testing.


Research Areas

  • High-fidelity modeling, simulation, and stability analysis of power systems, electric machines, and power electronic converters
  • Measurement-based data analytics, data-driven dynamic modeling of power grids and power plants, and software tool development
  • Control hardware prototyping, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and operational technology (OT) systems configuration for digital twin applications


Basic Qualifications

  • An M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, completed or expected prior to enrollment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid foundation in power systems, classic control theory, and/or hardware design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated programming experience and software development skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to process, interpret, and present technical results clearly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
