Description

The Department of Biomechanics at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join their research team for the Summer or Fall 2026 semester. This position is led by Dr. Alexey Kamenskiy, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomechanics and Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB).


Successful candidates will work within a unique translational research environment focused on solving real-world vascular diseases. The lab offers a multidisciplinary setting where engineering and medicine intersect to develop tangible healthcare solutions.


Research Focus & Opportunities

The selected PhD student will engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of several key fields:

  • Soft Tissue Biomechanics: Investigating the mechanical properties and behaviors of biological tissues.
  • Medical Device Development: Designing and innovating new cardiovascular devices.
  • Preclinical Evaluation: Testing and evaluating developments in large animal models.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Working closely with clinicians and surgeons to ensure research translates to patient care.
  • Hands-on Experience: Direct involvement with human vascular tissues and preclinical studies.


Funding Coverage

Fully Funded: This position is a fully funded Graduate Assistantship.


Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this assistantship, applicants should meet the following profile:

  • Academic Background: A degree in Engineering, Medicine, Physiology, or a related field.
  • Research Interests: A strong interest in translational biomechanics and the innovation of medical devices.
