Description

Are you passionate about gender studies, youth culture, or digital media? The Centre for Organisations and Social Change (COSC) at RMIT University is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a funded project exploring the intersections of gender norms, gaming influencers, and tween boys. This unique opportunity will position you at the forefront of cultural research, examining how digital platforms shape identity, masculinity, and influence in a rapidly evolving media landscape. 


Responsibilities

About the Role

The successful applicant will work alongside a multidisciplinary research team to:

  • Investigate the role of gaming influencers in shaping gender norms among boys aged 9–13
  • Explore how platforms, content, and communities influence attitudes, behaviors, and identity
  • Produce academic outputs, public reports, and actionable insights for educators, parents, and policymakers
  • Engage with industry partners and stakeholders in education, media, and youth development

This project offers rich opportunities for fieldwork, publishing, and contributing to public discourse on digital childhoods and gender equity. 


Qualification

Who Should Apply?

The role is open to PhD-qualified researchers from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, including but not limited to:

  1. Gender Studies
  2. Media and Communication
  3. Sociology or Cultural Studies
  4. Education or Childhood Studies
  5. Psychology or Youth Studies

Applicants should have experience in qualitative or mixed methods research and a passion for working on socially relevant, youth-focused topics.
