Description

A fully funded postdoctoral position has been announced at the University of British Columbia (UBC), designed to support innovative research on equitable and sustainable energy transitions. This fellowship is jointly offered through the Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) initiative and the Systems Beings Lab (SBL), under the guidance of Dr. Naoko Ellis and Dr. Derek Gladwin. The opportunity has been structured to empower early-career scholars to engage in interdisciplinary and community-rooted research that advances clean energy solutions. Researchers will be supported in integrating engineering, education, social science, and policy to tackle real-world energy transition challenges. 


Responsibilities

Core Research Areas

  • Energy Justice & Climate Equity – Examining inclusive approaches to decarbonization
  • Public Engagement & Energy Literacy – Fostering understanding of energy system transformation
  • Complex Systems & Interdisciplinary Approaches – Integrating technical, ecological, and cultural dimensions
  • Community Collaboration – Partnering with Indigenous groups, local governments, and civic organizations 


Fellowship Highlights

  • A competitive salary in the range of CAD 65,000–80,000, determined by experience
  • Research across multiple disciplines, with a focus on systems thinking and community impact

Qualification

Eligibility Criteria

  • A Ph.D. (completed within the last 3 years) in a relevant field such as energy studies, sustainability, policy, education, or engineering
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in transdisciplinary methods and applied research
  • Proficiency in qualitative or quantitative analysis, and/or participatory research
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in diverse, cross-sectoral teams
