The Australian National University (ANU), in collaboration with Professor Bina D’Costa, has announced a fully funded one-year postdoctoral fellowship designed to support early-career researchers from Myanmar. This opportunity is intended to foster rigorous academic research while promoting global engagement with Myanmar’s contemporary issues. Applicants will be supported in producing policy-relevant studies, gaining mentorship from renowned scholars, and accessing professional networks within academia and international institutions. 

Responsibilities

Research Themes

• Governance and Conflict – Analysis of political transitions, peacebuilding, and state structures
• Social Change and Displacement – Research on ethnic relations, human rights, gender equity, and forced migration
• Economic Resilience – Exploration of informal economies, resource extraction, and recovery strategies in post-crisis settings

Qualification

Eligibility Requirements

• Must hold Myanmar citizenship (priority given to displaced scholars or those residing in Myanmar)
• Possession of a PhD awarded within the past 5 years in a relevant discipline (political science, sociology, economics, etc.)
• No prior postdoctoral fellowship experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Burmese
• A proven interest in applied research and its relevance to humanitarian or policy environments
