Description
Applications are being invited for a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship under the “Excellence by Choice” program at Umeå University. The position is being offered within the research groups of Dr. Verena Kohler and Dr. Andreas Kohler and is centered on investigating the role of specialized mitoribosomes in proteotoxic stress and ageing. This research opportunity is being extended to highly motivated individuals with a keen interest in mitochondrial biology, cellular stress, and ageing, aiming to contribute to a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
Research Environment:
This position will be hosted at the Department of Molecular Biology, the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, and the Umeå Centre for Microbial Research (UCMR). State-of-the-art core facilities and technical platforms at Umeå University will be made available to support this project.
Responsibilities
Key Opportunities for the Postdoc:
- Development of an independent research project within a collaborative framework.
- Scientific support and mentorship will be provided by two principal investigators.
- Advanced molecular techniques and high-end research tools will be learned and applied.
- Contributions to the field of proteostasis and cellular ageing will be made.
Qualification
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A strong academic background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
- A proven capacity for independent work, combined with a collaborative research spirit.
- Genuine interest in proteostasis and genetic model systems.
Preferred Technical Experience:
Experience in at least one of the following areas will be considered an asset:
- High-throughput screening techniques (e.g., sequencing, mass spectrometry)
- Protein biochemistry
- High-content microscopy, mitochondrial biology, or structural biology (preferred)
