Suzanna Khalifa (Sciences Po Paris) is hiring a highly motivated full-time pre-doctoral research assistant (pre-doc) to support work at all stages of the research process. The successful candidate will work on a portfolio of projects in development economics, gender, and labor markets, with a regional focus on the Middle East and North Africa. Projects involve collaborations with faculty at Sciences Po and other institutions. This position is an excellent fit for candidates planning to pursue graduate studies (e.g., PhD in economics, public policy, political science, or data science), who are looking to gain rigorous research experience. The pre-doc will engage deeply in all aspects of the research cycle: building project pipelines, designing survey instruments, coordinating with field partners, cleaning and analyzing data, performing regression analysis, conducting literature reviews, and contributing to academic writing and presentations. The RA will meet regularly with Professor Khalifa. 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:


• Data Management and Analysis
     Clean, organize, and manage large datasets using Stata
     Perform regression analysis.
     Scrape and extract data from publicly available sources where needed.
     Ensure data quality, documentation, and security throughout the project life cycle.
• Literature Reviews
     Conduct thorough literature searches on relevant topics.
     Summarize empirical findings and theoretical frameworks for use in paper sand proposals.     
• Questionnaire & Survey Design
      Assist in developing and piloting survey instruments using Survey CTO.
      Support the creation of experimental protocols for field implementation.
• Research Support
      Contribute to research design, particularly for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and other experimental methods.
     Collaborate with team members on Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, data collection protocols, grant writing and reporting.
• Fieldwork (if feasible)
     Assist in coordinating data collection activities in Egypt.
     Conduct or support qualitative interviews and piloting of instruments in the field.
• Additional Tasks
     Communicate with field partners and collaborators in English (and Arabic if possible).
     Provide administrative support including scheduling, grant documentation, and dissemination of results. 


Qualification

Eligibility:


• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, or related field
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; Robust quantitative and programming skills in STATA; Familiarity with Python and Survey CTO
• Knowledge of applied econometrics and interest in development economics
• Fluency in Arabic is a bonus
• Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work independently
