Description

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships have been designed for applicants from the least developed countries and vulnerable states in the Commonwealth. These awards are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and are administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). Through this programme, outstanding graduates are provided with the opportunity to pursue full-time doctoral study at a UK university, with research that delivers developmental impact in their home countries. By offering this support, the CSC ensures that talented individuals are empowered to become future leaders, researchers, and educators while strengthening partnerships between the UK and Commonwealth nations.

What the Scholarship Covers

During the tenure of the award (36 months), the following financial support is provided:

  • Approved airfare from the Scholar’s home country to the UK and return at the end of the award.
  • Full tuition fees, covered by an agreement between the CSC and the UK university.
  • Stipend (living allowance): £1,452 per month, or £1,781 for those based at universities in the London metropolitan area.
  • Warm clothing allowance, where required.
  • Study travel grant for research-related travel.
  • Fieldwork allowance, including one economy-class airfare to the location.
  • Paid mid-term visit to the home country, under specific conditions.
