A call for applications has been issued for the Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship 2025–2026, inviting exceptional individuals from around the globe to engage in a year-long, fully funded residency at Harvard University. This prestigious program is designed to support scholars, scientists, artists, and practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields. Radcliffe fellows are exceptional scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, and artists whose work is making a difference in their professional fields and in the larger world. Fellows join a uniquely interdisciplinary and creative community. Radcliffe supports engaged scholarship, where fellows develop new tools and methods, challenge artistic and scholarly conventions, and illuminate their past and present. They welcome applications from scholars and artists proposing innovative work that confronts pressing social and policy issues and seeking to engage audiences beyond academia.
Financial Support
Fellows will receive comprehensive financial assistance, including:
- Stipend: $78,000 for the fellowship year
- Project Expenses: An additional $5,000
- Relocation Allowance: Support for moving expenses to and from the Boston area
- Housing Allowance: Up to $7,940, depending on family size
- Childcare Support: Up to $5,100, with additional funds for younger children
- Healthcare Assistance: Coverage for health insurance premiums, particularly for international fellows on J-1 visas
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are welcomed from individuals of all nationalities, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or ideological perspective. Eligibility requirements vary by discipline:
Humanities and Social Sciences:
- Doctorate (or terminal degree) in the proposed project area, completed at least two years prior to the fellowship year (i.e., by December 2023)
- Publication of a monograph or at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections
Science, Engineering, and Mathematics:
- Doctorate in the proposed project area, completed at least two years prior to the fellowship year
- Publication of at least five articles in refereed journals
Creative Arts:
- Film and Video: Significant body of independent work, such as films or broadcasts
- Visual Arts: Professional experience of at least five years, with participation in curated group shows or solo exhibitions
- Fiction and Non-Fiction: At least one published book, a contract for a manuscript, or a minimum of three substantial published works
- Journalism: Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience
- Poetry: Publication of at least 20 poems in the past five years or a published book of poetry
- Playwriting: Production or significant recognition of independent work
- Music Composition: Professional artist with a recent performance record; PhD or DMA preferred but not required
Practitioners: Senior leadership positions in non-profits, government, or the private sector with at least ten years of relevant experience and recognized leadership in the field
Please note that former Harvard Radcliffe Fellows (from 1999 to the present) are ineligible to apply.
Application Process

Selection Process
Applications will undergo a two-tiered review process:
- Disciplinary Review: Evaluation by experts in the applicant's specific field
- Multidisciplinary Committee Review: Assessment by a committee aiming to select a diverse cohort of fellows demonstrating the highest achievement and potential
Applicants will be notified of the selection outcomes via email in March 2025.
