Description

Applications for the 2025 NGFP Fellowship are now open.

Applications are being invited for the NGFP Fellowship, designed for emerging foresight practitioners exploring futures thinking. Young professionals aged 18–35 and individuals over 35 with less than one year of experience in foresight are encouraged to apply. Foresight is defined as a systematic approach to navigating uncertainty by envisioning alternative futures. The discipline is being recognized for its ability to build resilience, competitiveness, and agility in organizations and communities. Practitioners are expected to use collaborative methods to promote social and environmental impact through futures work. The fellowship will span one year, during which project support, peer learning, and community engagement will be offered. Participants will be awarded an initial grant of USD 1,000 to support their foresight projects. A grand prize of USD 10,000 will be awarded to a fellow demonstrating exceptional impact and growth in the field.

Eligibility

You are invited to apply if you are a young professional aged 18–35 at the early stage of your futures and foresight journey, or someone older with less than one year of experience in the field. Applicants should be eager to expand their knowledge and networks in futures and foresight, and demonstrate a commitment to building community and collaborative networks. Ideal candidates are working on bold, forward-thinking project ideas that aim to create lasting systemic change at local or global levels, and that can benefit from the integration of foresight methods. The fellowship seeks individuals who are lifelong learners with a long-term vision for social or environmental impact over the next decade. Applications are welcomed from all regions, with a particular focus on those based in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Caribbean, Central and South America, the Pacific Islands, and the Balkans.

What the Fellowship offers

The NGFP Fellowship offers a range of valuable opportunities for emerging foresight practitioners. Fellows receive a USD 1,000 kick-starter fund to support their projects, along with access to a global network of like-minded individuals. Each participant is paired with a project partner, typically an experienced foresight practitioner, to guide their journey. The fellowship includes foresight capability building through an introductory training course, and fellows stay informed with bi-weekly emails featuring news, opportunities, and grant information to support their changemaking efforts. Participants also have the chance to engage in regional or thematic hubs, contribute to relevant foresight events and projects, and compete for a USD 10,000 prize awarded at the end of the fellowship year for outstanding contribution and progress.

They are particularly enthusiastic about applications from those working on the world’s most complex issues, or what they call Foresight Transformation Missions. They are: Climate & Just Transitions, Democracy & Sustainable Development, Emerging Technologies, Futures Methods From Around the World & Indigenous Futures, Inter generational Fairness, Nuclear Security, and Peace building. While they receive many brilliant applications, the fellowship is competitive and they only have 25 spaces in each annual cohort.  However, they invite all top applicants to become part of the NGFP Sensing Network – a global network of 900+ practitioners, of which 188 are fellows. See the opportunities you can access as an NGFP network member.

If you’re interested in becoming an NGFP Fellow, please submit your application by 23:59 GMT+1 on July 31, 2025.
