The Artificial Intelligence in Transportation (AIT) Lab at Texas State University invites applications for one Ph.D. position as a Doctoral Research Assistant (DRA), kicking off in Spring 2027.


Target Audience

Prospective doctoral students holding a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering, or Computer Engineering.


What You Will Do & Bring

  • Transportation Focus: Analyze crash and traffic data, appraise safety countermeasures, and evaluate roadway performance.
  • Agentic AI & ML: Implement tool calling, multi-agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and model evaluations.
  • Software & Computing: Write Python code, replicate GitHub repositories, build/deploy web tools/APIs, and leverage AWS, Docker, Google Colab, and GPU compute.
  • Research & Ownership: Drive reproducible research, draft technical reports/manuscripts, solve roadblocks proactively, and act on user feedback.


Admissions & Eligibility

  • GRE: Required (preferred benchmarks: Verbal ≥146, Quantitative ≥160).
  • English Proficiency: TOEFL iBT ≥94 (new scale) / ≥78 (previous scale), or IELTS Academic ≥6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 per section), or other university-approved alternatives.
