Description

Applications are being accepted for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. The position is located in Tampere, Finland, within the Smart Immersive Industrial Solutions team led by Research Team Leader Nikhil Pratap Pachhandara. As one of Europe’s foremost applied research organizations, VTT has more than 80 years of experience in science-based innovation. Over 2,300 experts from 60+ nationalities collaborate to develop solutions for global challenges. 

Responsibilities

Role Description

The appointed researcher will be engaged in advanced research at the intersection of AI and immersive technologies. Activities will include:

• Designing AI-driven digital twins for XR applications.
• Automating XR content creation using generative AI and LLMs.
• Prototyping solutions with Unity, Python, and open-source AI frameworks.
• Collaborating with cross-disciplinary research teams and industry stakeholders.
• Disseminating results through publications in leading journals and conferences. 

Position Information

• Focus Area: Integration of AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and machine learning within XR environments (AR/VR).
• Contract Type: Fixed-term, 3 years.
• Application Deadline: 31 August 2025 (applications reviewed on a rolling basis).
• Start Date: Flexible and negotiable. 

Qualification

Required Qualifications

• A PhD in computer science, AI, XR, or a closely related discipline, earned within the past 5 years.
• Proven skills in Python, Unity, and AI/ML frameworks.
• Practical experience in XR development or fine-tuning LLMs.

Preferred Qualifications

• An established record of publications in relevant fields.
• A publicly accessible GitHub portfolio showcasing related projects.
