Description

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is inviting applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position in the automated fabrication of metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films, within the Section for Mechanical Technology. This role is part of an innovative project funded by the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme (EUDP), focused on advancing chemical sensing technologies with real-world applications. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Jonas Sundberg, the selected researcher will be a key contributor to developing a fully automated fluidic system for MOF deposition on quartz resonators - vital for detecting methane in seawater, supporting sustainable decommissioning of oil & gas operations.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and program an automated fluidics system for precise reagent delivery and in-situ film monitoring using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM).
  • Develop and characterize MOF thin films using techniques such as AFM, SEM, XRD, IR, and Raman spectroscopy.
  • Study methane adsorption behavior in complex aqueous environments.
  • Collaborate with another postdoc on prototype development and field testing of the sensor device.
  • Publish scientific findings, present at international conferences, and mentor BEng/MSc students.

Qualification

Eligibility Criteria

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, physics, or related disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience in wet-lab chemistry.
  • Strong background in MOF synthesis and structural characterization.
  • Expertise in thin-film deposition techniques and analysis.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python or similar languages for hardware control/data analysis.
  • Familiarity with surface/interface analysis tools (e.g., XPS, Raman, AFM).
  • Experience in sensor development or automated experimental setups.

What DTU Offers

  1. An international and interdisciplinary research environment.
  2. Opportunities for professional growth, global collaborations, and active participation in conferences.
  3. A vibrant and inclusive work culture with frequent team-building and social events.

Salary & Contract

Employment and remuneration will follow the collective agreement set by the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Exact compensation will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
