The research will focus on the development of advanced in vitro models that replicate complex biological responses to tissue injury, including inflammation, repair, and regeneration. This project addresses current limitations in organ-on-chip and microphysiological systems, aiming to create next-generation platforms for translational research and biomaterial testing. The position is embedded in the Clinical Translation platform at the MERLN Institute, renowned for its interdisciplinary approach that merges engineering and life sciences.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop microengineered models that mimic multi-stage tissue injury and recovery
  • Apply and test regenerative biomaterials within these platforms
  • Utilize high-resolution fabrication techniques and bioanalytical tools
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, and clinicians
  • Publish research findings in top-tier journals and contribute to knowledge dissemination
  • Assist in the training and supervision of junior researchers and students

Qualification

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in microfluidic in vitro modeling, 3D cell culture, or organ-on-chip systems
  • Strong foundation in cell and molecular biology, including imaging and bioanalytics
  • Familiarity with CAD, microfabrication, PDMS-based microfluidics, or related technologies
  • Fluency in English with excellent scientific writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within interdisciplinary teams

Desirable:
