Description

A full-time postdoctoral position has been made available within the Research Unit of Clinical Microbiology, part of the Department of Clinical Research at SDU’s Faculty of Health Sciences. This position is being offered in the context of a recently awarded grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, supporting a project focused on developing anti-infective drugs and vaccines using the pig as a translational animal model.  The position will be centrally involved in designing and managing pig-based infection studies, while also conducting efficacy assessments of therapeutic interventions using immunological and cell-based laboratory assays on samples collected from pig models. The postdoctoral fellow will be embedded in the research group led by Professor Thomas Emil Andersen, located at the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Odense University Hospital. The group is known for conducting interdisciplinary research bridging experimental microbiology and clinical practice, with the overarching goal of transforming fundamental discoveries into clinical applications that improve patient care. A dynamic research environment, access to advanced facilities, and collaborative academic-industry projects will be offered to support career development and high-impact scientific publishing. 


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

  • The planning and coordination of pig-based experimental infection models will be undertaken
  • Laboratory analysis of immune responses and vaccine efficacy using ELISA, flow cytometry, and related cell-based techniques will be performed
  • Collaborative work with the Department of Cancer and Inflammation (immunology-focused) and the Biomedical Laboratory (animal facilities) will be maintained
  • Integration and synthesis of data from multiple project partners for publication purposes will be expected
  • Contribution to research output through peer-reviewed publications and manuscript preparation will be required 


Qualification

Qualifications and Expectations: 

Applicants must possess:

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) in microbiology, medicine, veterinary medicine, or a closely related discipline

Prior research experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Clinical or molecular microbiology
  • Animal infection models
  • Use of pigs in experimental research
  • Immunogenicity assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry)
  • Cell culture-based infection assays 

Additional assets include:

  • Familiarity with collaborative academic-industry research settings
  • Capacity to manage multi-partner projects and coordinate scientific output
  • Documented success in writing and publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers
  • Willingness to develop expertise in additional experimental methods as required

Employment Terms

  • Employment will be by the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations)
